David Wack Obituary

David Schuyler Wack, 74, entered into an eternity of peace on May 10, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.  His devotion to live a full life, combined with his firm belief in God supported him through his battle and ultimately gave him and his remaining family peace.

David was born on February 1, 1944 to the late Donald Mason Wack and Eleanor Lois Knight in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey.  As a boy he loved building things, duck hunting, bowling and just about anything to do outdoors.  In sixth grade, he was six feet tall and by age 14, he began working after school at the local mariner’s hardware store.  His employment inspired him to build his own boat, a project that took many years, not to mention a better part of his family’s back yard.  By the time he was 19, he was framing houses and continued to build throughout his adult life.  In fact, he built every house he ever owned and remodeled many more.  Bar a brief tenure in Tennessee during the late seventies, He remained in New Jersey until 1989, when he and Nancy decided to call Western North Carolina their home.  Using an accumulation of skills and life experience, he became the Plant Services Director for Fletcher Academy and remained in this role for 23 years until retirement in 2016.

David was blessed with a long marriage of 44 years to Nancy Ann Parker, who preceded his death on June 6, 2016.  Throughout their marriage, he faithfully cared for her leading up to her final days.  Together, their combined children, Gina Delida of Palm Bay, Florida, Tavis Wack of El Paso, Texas, Michael Wack of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Alexander Harrison of Texas and Schuyler Mason Wack of Fletcher, North Carolina, survive them.  He is also survived by his older sister, Carol Miller of Dunkirk, Maryland and 13 grandchildren.

David loved the Lord and walked daily in his faith.  There was little that limited him and obstacles only made him persevere.  He wielded a strong work ethic staying busy and creative right up to his final days.  He had a passion for farming and an incredible love for goats.  So much so, his last project was to build a goat barn and return to his pastime of raising and caring for goats.

He is dearly missed by his loved ones who celebrate the promise that he is at peace with his Creator.

David will be remembered during a life celebration on Thursday, May 24 at 6pm with a potluck reception to follow at Foster Seventh Day Adventist Church in Asheville, North Carolina.  Pastor and friend, Patrick Williams will officiate the service where all are welcome to share any memories.  The family gratefully welcomes many prayers, condolences and memories.  In lieu of flowers, donations of time and/or resources are welcomed to honor David’s completion of his goat barn.

David will be buried in Reevestown Cemetery in Barnegat, New Jersey beside his wife, Nancy.
