Donna Poore Frazier, 77, of Candler, NC, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Donna was born on September 12, 1944, in Washington, DC, to Arnell and Don Poore and traced her roots to the earliest European settlers in Buncombe County.
Donna grew up in West Asheville and was a 1962-graduate of Lee Edwards High School (today Asheville High School). She was married for over 57 years to Nelson D. Frazier, and had one son, Dr. Kevan D. Frazier of Asheville.
A gifted artist, crafter, and designer, Donna shared her talents generously with her community, especially Abernethy United Methodist Church where she served for more than four decades as the Chair of the Worship Committee as well as in other leadership roles. In her later years she became deeply involved in the church’s community ministry, The B.E.A.R. Closet (Baby Equipment And Resources). The B.E.A.R. Closet annually provides hundreds of Asheville families free clothing, equipment, and supplies for babies and children. Donna’s favorite role was as the intake coordinator where she welcomed all of the mothers and children.
Donna’s loving spirit touched all whom she met. She was an exemplar of unconditional love and gave generously of her time, treasure, and talent.
Donna is preceded in death by her mother, Edith Arnell Campbell Poore and her father, Robert Donald Poore. She is survived by her husband, Nelson D. Frazier and their son, Kevan D. Frazier; her sister Beverly Poore Hall (Russell); niece Mary E. Hall; nephew Christopher G. Hall; and grandniece Gwendolyn C. Hall.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held on Thursday, November 18, at 2 pm at Abernethy United Methodist Church at 1418 Patton Avenue in Asheville. A reception and receiving of friends will follow at the church in Wilson Hall. Attendees are encouraged to bring items to the service to support Donna's favorite community outreach program, The B.E.A.R. Closet (Baby Equipment And Resources). Donna would be overjoyed that this event could give a boost to the program she so loved. Clothing, toys, and equipment for all ages are welcome, but the Closet especially needs clothing, underwear, and socks, sizes 4-6, for boys and girls.
