Dorene Best Reddin of Mills River, North Carolina, passed Monday, May 30, 2022, at the age of eighty-three. Dorene was born January 10, 1939, to the late Juda Dora Kemp Best and Merit Raymond Best in Claude, Texas.
Dorene graduated with Amarillo High School’s class of 1956 and continued her education at Texas State College for Women. She spent time living in Germany, Virginia and Maryland before moving to Mills River, North Carolina, where she resided twenty years. She worked as an interior decorator and then as an administrator at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, until her retirement. Dorene enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. She was of Methodist faith.
Dorene’s brother, James William Best, preceded her in death in 2005.
She is survived by Thomas Edward Reddin, to whom she was married sixty-three years; son, Thomas Anthony Reddin (Whitney) of Braselton, Georgia, and Patrick James Reddin (Aislin) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Thomas Warren Reddin of Cumming, Georgia, Carter James, Gavin Hays and Audrey Dorene Reddin, all of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ryan Lockwood Finkenbinder of Denver, Colorado, and John Austin Finkenbinder of Marietta, Georgia.
A private service will be held in Dorene’s honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105).
