Everett Smith Obituary

     Everett Hall Smith of Fletcher NC died January 21, 2018 at Universal Health Care Center in Fletcher NC.  

     Everett was born to Everett F. Smith and Lida Wynn Knox Smith on September 20, 1932 in Bogalusa LA and was primarily raised in Mobile AL.  He graduated from McGill Institute for Boys in 1951 and Spring Hill College in 1957 with a  Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.  His time at Springhill included two years active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1955.  

     Everett was especially proud of his association with The Boy Scouts of America.  He joined the Scouts as a Cub in 1941 and received the Eagle Scout Award in 1951. In 1958 he joined BSA as a District Professional for the Gulf Coast Council in Fort Walton Beach FL.  In 1963 he was transferred to Norwela Council covering Bossier City and Shreveport LA.  On August 9, 1963 he met Bonnie Gail Stephens at a council event.  They married on September 19, 1963, welcomed their first daughter Stephanie Dawn on August 9, 1964 and their second Pamella Gail on July 19, 1965.  In 1967 he was transferred to The Cherokee Area Council in  Chattanooga TN.

     In 1973 they moved to Sewanee TN.  Where he became the Business Manager at The Sewanee Academy of The University of the South.  He and Bonnie Gail worked side by side in the business office, the school store and as the Head Dorm Parents in the boy's dormitory (1974-1978).  In 1981  "The Academy"  merged with a nearby school St. Andrews School becoming.  St. Andrews Sewanee School.  A final move was made to Fletcher NC where he served as Business Manager at Christ School in Arden from 1981-1989.

     Everett was pre-deceased by his parents, his sister Mary Ann Eastburn and his wife and best friend Bonnie Gail who died just 6 days before their 34th anniversary in 1997.

He is survived by his daughters Stephanie Milder and Pamella Smith and granddaughters Sierra and Seanna (Shawn-na) Milder.

     A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on February 17, 2018 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Asheville NC.

     Instead of flowers donations can be made to New Hope PC or to Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville SC.
