Frank Alfred Strang, 83, of Canton, North Carolina, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehab.
Frank was born March 21, 1936, to Mildred M. Martin VanGordon and Alfred Walter Strang in Manchester, Michigan. He earned a degree in nursing from North-Western College in Traverse City, Michigan. Frank served in the Air Force, served as a police officer and then pursued a career in nursing. He retired from Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Frank loved making wooden toys for children and helping others. His pastime was drinking coffee. He loved animals, taking photos, and traveling. Frank also enjoyed going to the flea market. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Frank was preceded in death by his mother (1993) and his father (1998).
Frank is survived by his wife of 48 years, Florence Louise Bacon Strang; siblings, Ronald VanGordon and wife Carol of Rockwell, Texas, Betty Wheeler of Mulberry, Kansas, and Melvia Birtles and husband Tom of Chelsea, Michigan; grandchildren, Alicia Ratkowiak and husband Tim of Greenville, South Carolina, great-grandchildren Adeline Ratkowiak of Greenville, South Carolina, and Haley DeLine of Gig Harbor, Washington; and step-children, Susie DeLine of Pelzer, South Carolina and Michael DeLine and wife Debbie of Gig Harbor, Washington.
A memorial service for Frank will be held at 3 o’clock on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Beaverdam Baptist Church (2524 Beaverdam Road) in Canton, North Carolina. Gene Worley will be officiating.
