George Mack Watkins, eighty-one, passed Monday, June 27, 2022, at home in Asheville, North Carolina. Mack was born March 11, 1941, to the late Plummer David Watkins and Lillie Fowler Watkins Young in Anderson, South Carolina.
Before moving to Asheville, Mack spent time living in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was interested in cars and NASCAR, was a talented gardener who loved flowering plants, and valued relationships with and time spent with family. Mack worked with NCI, currently GE, as well as being self-employed.
In addition to his parents, Mack’s brothers, Donald, Jimmy and Roger Watkins preceded him in death.
Surviving Mack are Lesa Mason, to whom he was married fifteen years; children, Norman Watkins (Monica) of Asheville, North Carolina, Keith Watkins (Tina) of Leicester, North Carolina, Chris Watkins (Theresa) of Anderson, South Carolina, Jody M. Gipson of Port Clinton, Ohio, Leanne Brackett (Robbie) of Fairview, North Carolina, and Charles J. Mason of Fairview, North Carolina; sister, Betty Watkins Orr (Bynam) of Thomasville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Connor Lobianco of Asheville, North Carolina, Autumn Rice (Adam) of Leicester, North Carolina, Jackson Watkins (Natalie) of Leicester, North Carolina, Abigail Watkins of Leicester, North Carolina, Gunner, Deacon, Kamden and Stelen Watkins, all of Anderson, South Carolina, Daniel Micha and Ashley Danielle Tipton both of Asheville, North Carolina, and Kayla Paige Calloway of Fairview, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Eyslee and Kix Rice, Marie Kate and Juliett Watkins, Amara Rose and Italy Marie Pickens, and Ada and Analise Tipton. Mack will greatly missed by his family.
