Helen Amelia Thompson Kramer, age 88, of Asheville, NC passed away on March 26, 2025. Helen was born on December 28, 1936 in Meadville, PA to the late Donald Chester Thompson and Laura Belle Roberts Thompson Smith.
Helen was a graduate of Meadville High School, where she was a part of the national honor society. She received her B.S. in Education from Clarion State Teachers College (Who’s Who in American Colleges and University). She worked 15 years as a school and business librarian. She also worked 24 years as a church secretary in both California and North Carolina. She enjoyed reading, writing, poetry, music, and singing in the church choir. She was a United Methodist Women member, and Walk to Emmaus community member.
Helen is preceded in death by her son, Kurt Alexander Kramer, her husband, Raymond Kramer, her father, Donald Thompson, her mother, Laura Smith, and her sister, Miriam Barkley. She is survived by her daughter, Lauralyn Ann Kramer Rickman, of Asheville, NC. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald Thompson, of Henderson, NV, James Thompson, of Erie, PA, and Arthur Thompson, of Brevard, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church on May 3rd at 3:00 PM at 486 Caribou Road, Asheville, NC 28803 with the pastors of BUMC, officiating. Memorials may be made out to Biltmore UMC, Biltmore UMW, ABCCM, and the Asheville Humane Alliance. Condolences may be made to the family at ashevillemortuaryservice.com.
