Henry Lynn Smeltzer, aged 91, of Asheville, NC, passed away August 8, 2024.
Lynn was born October 9, 1932, in Bristol, VA, to the late Henry Smeltzer and Annabelle Powell Smeltzer. He graduated from Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN, and served in the Army during the Korean War. Lynn later received his BA in Mechanical Engineering from East Tennessee State University and worked as Chief Engineer for CTS Corporation. Lynn had the good fortunate to retire at an early age and went into the vending industry with his good friend, Joe Distl, C & W Vending in Asheville, NC. Lynn was a charter member of Rosemont Presbyterian Church in Bristol, TN and a current member of First Baptist Church of Asheville, NC. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Bristol, TN, and Hendersonville, NC. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the sport well into his 80’s. As a college sports enthusiast, UT Football was at the top of his watch list, seldom missing a game. In his younger years he was an excellent water skier, amateur champion bowler and little league coach. Lynn had a great voice and loved singing harmony with friends and family over the years and was an admirer of Elvis Presley’s music.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Cynthia Roberts Smeltzer; children, Jeffrey (Kim) Smeltzer of Hendersonville, NC, Misty Smeltzer of Raleigh, NC, and Travis (Duane) Plumley of Hendersonville, NC; sister, Patsy Smeltzer Tauscher of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Wesley Smeltzer of Sarasota, FL, Evan Smeltzer of Charlotte, NC, Torin Smeltzer of Brick, NJ, and Noah Smeltzer of Hendersonville, NC; great-granddaughter, Luca Smeltzer; nieces Janice Daugherty, Nancy Butterworth, Vicki Estes, Tammy Gerdts, Sara Tynes, Julie Penley and Niki Tauscher; and nephews, Bobby Lynn Godsey and Mark Godsey.
A Memorial Service will be held August 24, 2024, at 1 pm, First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801. An interment will precede the service in The Sacred Gardens at First Baptist Church of Asheville.
