James Clements Obituary

James H. Clements of Arden, North Carolina, passed December 2, 2023, in Hendersonville. Born October 17, 1941, to the late Lee Clements and Dorothy Austin in Pasadena, Texas, James was eighty-two.

James lived most of his life in Western North Carolina where he worked as an auto mechanic. He loved his wife and children, and all grands – he loved children, and they loved him. James loved his big brother, Leon, and two sisters very much, and will be missed by them. He enjoyed building trucks and light houses, and earned his GED and then his Automotive Degree from AB-Technical Community College. James served for six years as a marksman in the United States Marines. He was stationed at Paris Island, South Carolina, and served in Hawaii and the Philippines. James was a collector of trucks and Elvis memorabilia. He was a good Christian man, and enjoyed watching church services every day of the week. James didn’t know strangers – he would try to help anyone.

In addition to his parents and step-father, Colman Austin, James was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Kiskendall, brother, LeRoy Clements, and granddaughter, Kimberly Hardaway.

James was married fifty-eight years to his wife, Joyce C. Clements, who passed January 6, 2024. He is survived by his children, James A. Clements (Tisha Clements) of Asheville, Julia Stonecipher (Bill Stonecipher) of Hendersonville, and Janice Clements of Arden; siblings, Leon Clements (Shirley Clements) of Camby, Indiana, Shirley Coffee (Gray Coffee) of Asheville, and Ellen Snellson (Bob Snellson) of Candler; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family.

A service will be held at eleven o’clock the morning of Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at ten o’clock. Pastor Steven Blanton will officiate. Memorials may be sent to 2557 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792.
