James Floyd Ratcliff, 75, of Asheville, NC, passed away on December 14, 2025 in Asheville, NC. Born on December 8, 1950 in Scioto County, OH, to the late Charles Ratcliff(1968) and Ella Taylor Ratcliff(2002). In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Rakie; and 3 nephews.
Before making his home in Asheville, NC, James lived in Franklin Furnace, OH. He graduated from Green High School. Later obtaining his associates degree from Blanton’s Business College. James proudly served in the United States Air Force. He served in 1969-1970 in the Vietnam War. Later joining the Asheville Police department and then dispatching for Buncombe County Sherriffs Office and North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Surviving James is his loving spouse of 55 years, Frances Ratcliff; children, Dianna Nickell (Bennie) of Asheville, NC, James Ratcliff (Carina) of Deltona, FL, John Ratcliff of Asheville, NC; brothers, Charles Ratcliff (Robin) of Candler, NC, George Ratcliff of Jackson, OH; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A drop-in visitation will be held at Penland Family Funeral Home, 125 South Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778 at 1PM-3PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
