James ‘’Lawrence’’ Owensby, aged 47, of Asheville, NC, passed away May 27, 2024.
Lawrence was born July 20, 1976, to the late Sandra Hughes and Donald Owensby. He graduated from Charles D. Owen High School in 1995 where he participated in JROTC and Color Guard. He was EMT Certified and received various schooling while in the US Army. Lawrence worked for the Black Mountian Fire Department and Mars Hill College Campus Police after leaving the service. He was a member of Trinity of Fairview Baptist Church in Fletcher, NC.
In his free time Lawrence enjoyed studying the Bible at home, reading books, fishing, cookouts, going to Pigeon Forge, TN, water parks, hanging out at the pool, playing Xbox, and watching Georgia Bulldogs football. Although, spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in passing by his step mom, Vonda Owensby; and grandparents, John Owensby and Agnes ‘’Dot’’ Owensby.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of five years, Rachel Sampica of Asheville, NC; son, Jacob Carson of Asheville, NC; siblings, Donnie (Chanel) Owensby of Hickory, NC, and Robbie (Lorie) Owensby of Burnsville, NC; step-dad, Evan Hughes; several step-siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held June 29, 2024, at 4 PM, at Trinity of Fairview Baptist Church, 646 Concord Road, Fletcher, NC 28732.
