Jerry Hicks

Jerry Hicks, 80 years old, of Pisgah Forest, NC departed his earthly home peacefully and entered his Heavenly home on January 18th, 2023. Born and raised in Andrews, NC to Eldon and Beatrice Hicks, Jerry was welcomed by an older brother and sister and was later proud to be a big brother.

Employed with Coats American for 40 years and more recently for Pisgah Enterprises, Jerry was known for his impeccable work ethic. Quite the handyman, Jerry was always eager and willing to fix anything – something his family, friends and neighbors were especially thankful for. His stubborn nature coupled with his commitment to be reliable meant that nothing was out of his expertise. For the past 20 years, Jerry was valued by countless customers and friends of the Pisgah Fish Camp. He truly loved going to work every day taking care of all of the “incidentals,” ensuring excellent care of the grounds and facilities for Pisgah Enterprises.

His most proud accolade, however, was being a grandfather to his blue-eyed nearly 4-year-old grandson, who adored Jerry beyond measure. In fact, after a long day of work, Jerry would arrive home to Mason waiting in the driveway for his Pawpaw to scoop him up for an afternoon ride through the neighborhood in “Pawpaw’s truck.” Jerry’s neighbors loved the sight of seeing the grandfather – grandson duo for their daily afternoon playtime. Jerry never missed an opportunity to hug Mason and tell him he loved him. From teaching Mason how to use his tools to nurturing his love for big trucks, Jerry’s legacy will indeed live on through Mason. Jerry took great pride in caring for his people.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Melissa Hicks, daughter, Cynthia Hicks, and grandson, Mason Hicks – the apple of his eye. A gathering to honor Jerry will be planned later this year. Jerry had a deep compassion for those who were less fortunate.
