Jerry Perkins Obituary

Jerry Lynn Perkins of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Perkins; his mother, Johnsie Ziegler Perkins, and his daughter, Lindsay Brook Perkins.

He is survived by his wife, Robbie Howland Perkins, with whom he would have celebrated their fifty-second anniversary on September 18, 2022; his children, Danya Perkins Doucette (James Arthur Doucette, Jr.) of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia, and John Thomas Perkins (Arlaya Swann) of Black Mountain, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Barbara Buckacker (Jim Buchaker) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Cindy Little of Albemarle, North Carolina; grandchildren, Clay Tanner Salos and River Thomas Salos of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia, and Nevaeh Lindsay Perkins, Kaiser Thomas Perkins and John Bryson Perkins of Black Mountain, North Carolina; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 24, 1948. He graduated from Independence High School, in Charlotte, and attended Western Carolina University. 

From 1969 - 1972 Jerry proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. After serving, he worked as a boat technician, marine electrical specialist, and Master Finish Carpenter. 

Jerry was a member of Land O’Sky Bass Club; a National Bass Member; a semi-professional bass fisherman, and a North Carolina State Champion and Regional Fishing Competitor. He was also a National Match Long Range Rifle Competitor.

Jerry looked forward to every aspect of each camping and fishing trip he took with Robbie and his dogs, Sadie and Willow. He found joy in spending time with his family and was an avid golfer and bird watcher. He will be missed.

A service will be held at noon on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (962 Old US Hwy. 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711). Following the service, family and friends are invited to The Church at Asheville (79 Piney Mountain Drive, Asheville, North Carolina 28805) for lunch and fellowship.
