Jessie Sue Farmer Hudgins moved from her earthly home to her heavenly mansion on Saturday, April 16, 2022. She lived most of her life in the Leicester community of Buncombe County, often referring to WNC as “God’s Country.” Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Maria Farmer and a granddaughter, Makenzie Hudgins. She is survived by her siblings Gladys Gurley, Maria Horton (Keith) and Larry Farmer (Patti); her children Loretta Shelton (Robert), Jeremiah Hudgins and Stephanie Hudgins; her seven grandchildren, Kalee, Aaron, Austin, Daniel, Lena Marie, Savannah and Adisen; her great grandchildren James and Carly Grace.
Sue loved babies of all kinds. She once took four baby goats to Leicester School, riding on the backseat of her car, so the kindergarteners could see just how cute they were. She fed the birds, the squirrels and the deer so she could watch them in her yard. She loved to sing to her grandbabies as she rocked them to sleep.
Sue never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a “Hey! Hey” whenever she met them. Sue worked for many years as a volunteer both in church and the community and tried to support all those who needed encouragement.
Susie Q, her favorite nickname, also had a true love for the beach. She had some of her greatest trips there. She always wanted to have her ashes scattered in the ocean and the family will honor that request. Country music was also a delight to her, and she admired Dolly Parton for her talent and great acts of charity.
Her joyful spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her and we pray she may enjoy eternal bliss in Glory. The family will host a Memorial Celebration on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 3 pm at Spring Mountain Community Center, 807 Old Fort Road in Fairview.
