Joan B. Kingsley passed away peacefully on May 18th at her home in Flat Rock, North Carolina with her daughters at her side. Joan was born in Fairhaven, MA in 1930 the daughter of Joseph Barnicle and Marion McClung Barnicle (both deceased). She served as a RN after graduating from Wellesley College and shortly thereafter married Francis A. (“Skip”) Kingsley in 1953. Their wonderful marriage lasted for 40 years ending with Skip’s passing in 1993. Joan was predeceased by her brother, Robert Barnicle, and her sister, Nancy B. Adams. Joan was devoted to her children Lisa J. Kingsley, Dana A. Kingsley and Steven L. Kingsley (deceased). Additionally, she is survived by granddaughter Gretchen J. Dykema, Dennis R. Carlson and Samantha C. Stolz, grandsons Richard W. Domino, Daniel K. Domino and Adam K. Domino and great-grandchildren Bailey R. Dykema, Blake C. Dykema, Jason K. Dykema, Jesse T.Dykema, Nicholas C. Dykema and Ava M. Domino. Joan lived a rich life filled with many activities and avocations. She exhibited a love for interior design, colorful stories and most of all people. Joan was known for her beauty, elegance, warmth and sense of humor all resulting in a large circle of friends wherever she lived.
Services will be held at St. John in the Wilderness in Flat Rock on May 29th at 1:00 pm. Contributions may be sent to Blue Ridge Humane Society, Four Seasons Hospice, or St. John in the Wilderness.
