John “Buddy” Lawrence Dorn of Orangeburg, SC, passed away peacefully March 16, 2026, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. He was 79. Born on the Fourth of July, 1946, in Edgefield, SC, John was the youngest of six children of the late George Edward and Mary Esma (Rogers) Dorn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Bennett) Dorn.
John was the loving father of daughter Rebecca “Becky” Elizabeth Dorn, a psychiatric nurse practitioner residing in Waynesville, NC.
Also preceding him in death were siblings Iris Dorn, Syble Lindler, Jean Smith, Obie Rhett Dorn, Roger Dorn, and George Edward Dorn, Jr.
John served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, earning several medals and commendations. After his military service, he worked in the telecommunications field.
A deeply private person, John specifically requested that he not have a funeral, but rather a casual celebration of his life for family and friends to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or the Veterans Village in Swannanoa, NC.
