John Rufus Trull, Jr., 78, of Asheville, NC, peacefully passed away in the hospice unit at the Charles George VA Medical Center on December 11, 2025.
John was born in Haywood County, NC, on February 9, 1947, to the late Willia Mae Hall Trull and John Rufus Trull, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Vivian Deanna Greene.
John was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He later became one of the leading supervisors at Ball Glass until the plant closed in 1994. He then went to work and retired from the United States Postal Service.
John loved nature, hiking, and driving the Blueridge Parkway. He loved walking the neighborhood with his dog, Rudy, and did this at least twice daily. Throughout his prolonged illness, he discovered art and enjoyed creating many colorful pictures.
John leaves behind his longtime partner and best friend, Jayne Reavis, and their beloved dog, Rudy. His children also survive him: Julie Balcom (Tim), Carla Haughton (Tommy), and Jonathan Trull (Rachel); brother, Ronald “Judd” Trull (Donna) of Waynesville, NC; nieces, Dana Greene, Tiare Mashburn; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
