The rebellious spirit of Judith Alice Fox arrived earthside on September 21st of 1940 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her parents, Arthur Larned Fox and Sarah Alice (Schofield) Fox, both of whom were career officers in the Salvation Army, added her to a family of four boys: William Arthur Fox, Robert Marshall Fox, Charles Herbert Fox, and Edward Clifford Fox. In keeping with a generations-old family tradition, Judith grew up in the Salvation Army, played the cornet and the violin, and was an ordained minister who preached on the streets of New Haven, Connecticut.
Shortly after moving to Connecticut in the 1960s, she met Dominic Tek Sung Lim, a brilliant doctor from the Philippines with Chinese heritage. Despite their age difference and despite this being before the Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia, Judith and Dominic were married in 1961. They are survived by their three children Victoria Alice Lim (children: Faith, Alex, Matthew, Michael, Brandon, Mei Li), Vincent Arthur Lim m. Vivian Dee Lim (child: Amy Sara Dee Lim), and Olivia Jennifer Lim m. Dave Pike (child: Cedar Woodhull Lim). She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Judith was a wife and a mother who could be described as non-conformist and free-spirited. She went on illustrious adventures across the world– cruises, camping trips, and political protests alike– never failing to send her grandchildren a postcard from wherever she went. She was an excellent cook, an accomplished ballroom dancer, a connoisseur of pop music (especially Neil Diamond and Barry Gibb), an advocate for change, and a great lover of changing her hair color every few months. A big sports fan who always rooted for the family team - the New England Patriots - Judith would often include Tom Brady jerseys in her wardrobe rotation.
Though she faced hardships and tribulations throughout her life, Judith remained brave and unafraid to be that feisty, hippie, feminist who loved without bounds even when she didn’t love herself. Her love was a protest anthem, a testament to how hard she fought. Judith Alice Fox peacefully floated beyond this world on February 28th, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She will be remembered for showing us that love is worth fighting for.
Judith had a great love for animals and her granddogs, Tater and Gandalf. If you wish to honor her memory please consider donating to the Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC, or the Pasadena Humane Society in Pasadena, CA, in her name.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
