Judy Jedwill

            Judy Jedwill of Arden, NC, passed away peacefully at Tore’s Home Assisted Living in East Flat Rock, NC, on Sunday, September 10th, at the age of 82. Born in Detroit, MI, on February 28, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Ruth Hansen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Slavic, and her sister, Gail Meshew. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Richard Jedwill, of Arden, NC; her step-son, Hugh Jedwill, and granddaughter, Gia Jedwill, both of Chicago; her sister, Donna Field, nieces Michelle Arthur, Becky Eberhard, and Kristen Ross, nephews Devin and Michael Field, and daughters Deanna Hanner and Melissa Nostrant, all of Michigan.

            Judy earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Detroit College of Business. She steadily rose in her career to become Supervisor of Radiology Transcription at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where she implemented a number of significant procedural innovations.

            She enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including travel, gardening, basket weaving, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and stained glass. She also participated in many outdoor activities, including camping, canoeing, cross country skiing, and whitewater rafting. She developed an enthusiastic enjoyment of square dancing, through which she developed friendships that led to the formation of an amateur string band in which she played the autoharp and penny whistle, and which played for many audiences at senior citizen facilities. Her musical talents also included playing keyboard and guitar (both classical and western).

            Following retirement in 2000, she relocated with her husband to Weaverville, NC, and became active in pet therapy with her collie dog, Belle. After suffering a stroke in 2008, she and her husband moved to Ardenwoods Retirement Community in 2012.

            Judy will be interred at Acacia Park cemetery in Beverly Hill, MI. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ardenwoods on Saturday, October 21, at 3:00pm.
