Karen (Byrd) Ferguson

Karen Byrd Ferguson, age 66, of Banner Elk, NC, passed away on September 10, 2022 at her home on Sugar Top Mountain.

Karen was born on January 31, 1956 in Newport News, VA to the late Bobby Byrd Sr. and Carol Thompson Byrd.

In addition to her parents, Karen was proceeded in death by her brother, Bobby ‘’Jerry’’ Byrd Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Justin Ferguson (Margaret) of Manassas, VA and Rachel Ferguson (Ryan) of Burke, VA; niece, Amanda Queen (Greg) of Troy, NC; and Nephew Bobby Byrd III of Troy, NC.

Karen was a passionate, firecracker of a woman, who loved deeply. She lived life all over the world and was skilled at making everywhere feel like a home. Karen graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Wilmington, NC with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1984.  She enjoyed spending time with her children, spending time at the beach, swimming, gardening, baking, dressing up, painting, and art. She was an avid follower of Christ. Karen left a mark on all who knew and loved her.

There will be a celebration of life to be held by the family to be announced at a later date.
