Karen Leigh Powell

Karen Leigh Powell, age 66, of Rosman, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Karen was born to the late William (Bill) and Marsha McKinney of Lake Toxaway, North Carolina.

Those who truly knew her understood what an incredible, strong, and loving woman she was. Simply, to know her was to love her. She devoted her life to making sure her daughter had every chance to succeed. Even in the face of adversity, her strength and determination remained evident. She found joy in the simple things she loved most: cheering on the Atlanta Braves, caring for her beloved fur babies over the years, researching genealogy, and searching for hidden treasures at thrift stores. However, her greatest pride and joy were her twin grandsons. She rarely missed an opportunity to follow their ballgames, always eager for updates and cheering them on with unwavering love. Karen also shared a special bond with her sisters, whom she loved deeply. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, music, and memories that will be cherished forever.

Karen was preceded in death by her loving parents, Bill and Marsha McKinney. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Watson and husband Joseph; her beloved grandsons, John Parker and Brady; her sisters, Donna Sudano (David), Carla Fisher, Tammy Warren (Sonny), and Tricia Lowe (Kevin); her nieces and nephews, Jacob Fisher, Destine Griffith, David Sudano (Sharyn), Sarah Kollman (Rob), Corey Hoxit, and Abby Warren; and her great-nieces and nephew, Ethan Griffith, Zoe Griffith, and Maya Sudano.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
