Kathleen ”Kathy” Ann Smith, age 61, of Waynesville, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Asheville, NC. Kathleen was born on April 13, 1965 in Granite City, IL to the late David Junior Canterbury (2006) and Carol Ann Storms (2004). In addition to her parents, Kathy was also preceded in death by her brother, David Anthony Canterbury.
Before making her home for the last 16 years in Waynesville, NC, she also resided in Hot Springs, AR. Kathy found joy in the simple beauty of the outdoors, especially spending time at the lake fishing and listening to the sounds of birds and wildlife around her. She had a deep love for nature and a special affection for her dogs, whom she cared for with endless love. Kathy also enjoyed working on vehicles and cherished every moment spent with her family. Her kind spirit and love for life will forever inspire those who knew her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Jonathan Ray of Yakimka, WA; her daughter, Tiffany McGovern (Kevin) of Yakimka, WA; her siblings, Kristine Ann Clark of Humboldt, TN, Theresa Marie Romano (Michael) of Humboldt, TN, Debbie Harvey of Hot Springs, AR, Robin Dawn Rowe (Rodney) of Hot Springs, AR, and Tonya Lynn Buckingham of Hot Spring, AR; five grandchildren; and the Morris Family who she loved dearly, Geoffrey Morris of Waynesville, NC and Tigre Morris of Waynesville, NC.
