Linda Austin Lopes died at her home in Asheville, North Carolina on June 12, 2021. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard T. Lopes MD, her daughter of considerably fewer years, Erica L. Lopes, her sister, Lisa Austin Michaud, and brother, Timothy Lee Austin.
Linda was a human sparkler who will be remembered for so many things – her impossibly blue eyes, her very bright smile, her fabulous cooking, her easy laugh, her green thumb and her kind and gentle spirit. She was a graduate of Radford University and received her Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia. She was a gifted teacher who brightened the lives of students and parents in every classroom she entered. There are no words that can adequately express how much she will be missed. She was, quite simply, the center of our family. Her dedication and love made everyone’s contribution possible.
In the final months of Linda’s life, her bravery, strength and grace were an inspiration to us all. Memorial donations may be made in Linda’s name to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (NPCF).
