Louie Dean Miller, 60, of Balsam Grove, North Carolina, passed away on January 22, 2024, peacefully in his home. Louie was a lifelong resident of Transylvania County. Born on April 20, 1963, in Brevard, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles Miller and Alice Gray Miller. Louie was a kind, thoughtful, and caring individual who was known as a solid friend and neighbor. He had a great sense of humor and an outgoing and adventurous spirit.
Louie had a fulfilling career as a landscaper for Catatoga in Lake Toxaway, where he was currently employed. Prior to that, he worked as a plumber for B&B Plumbing in Pisgah Forest, NC for many years, showcasing his skills and dedication.
In his free time, Louie enjoyed various hobbies such as hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and practicing herbalism and bush crafting. He cherished the moments spent with his beloved cat, "Tommie," who brought him immense joy.
Louie will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his daughter Kimberly Miller O’Shields, son-in-law Justin O’Shields, granddaughter Hannah Holden, grandsons Andrew McMahon and Bentley O’Shields of Brevard, NC. He is also survived by his sisters Joyce Raines of Brevard, NC, Linda Hubbard of Walhalla, SC, and Dorothy Rathbone, and brother-in-law Sid Rathbone of Sylva, NC, and many other relatives and friends. Louie was preceded in death by his father Charles Miller, mother Alice Gray Miller, sisters Wanda Jo Miller and Brenda Miller Owen, and brother Charles Miller, Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate Louie's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Balsam Grove Community Center located in Balsam Grove, NC. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Asheville Mortuary Services located in Asheville, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Asheville Mortuary Services, there is also a GoFundMe set up to help with end-of-life costs.
Louie Dean Miller will be remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated professional, and an avid outdoorsman. His warm presence and genuine friendship will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
