Mark Damon Penley, age 70, of Buncombe County, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. He born on April 24, 1951 in Buncombe County to Max Hillard Penley of Black Mountain and the late Edith Runion Penley. Mark was retired from working as a painter for Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center. He was an extremely talented man and loved music. Mark was the music director at Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church in Black Mountain. He could play music, sing and also make instruments like the dulcimer, the harp and the guitar. Along with his many musical abilities, Mark was also an artist and thoroughly enjoyed painting.
Along with his mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Penley. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 49 years, Linda Gail Crawford Penley; his daughter, Heather Schoff and husband Stephen of Maggie Valley, NC; his son, Chris Penley and spouse, Tiffany Craig of Black Mountain; his grandchildren, Thomas and Sara Craig, Stephen, Tori and Kayla Penley, all of Black Mountain, and Emory Thomas of Hendersonville.
A celebration of life for Mark will be held at 1:30pm, Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church, 204 Blue Ridge Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711, with the Rev. Ben Wheeler and Rev. Randy Stone officiating. The family will be receiving friends after the service in the chapel.
