Matthew Preston Pickard

Matthew Preston Pickard, 43, of Arden, NC passed away on August 29th, 2022 at his home.  Matthew was born on May 26th, 1979 to John E. Pickard Jr. and Brenda F. Pickard, both of Arden, NC.  Matthew graduated from TC Roberson High School in 1997.  Before graduation from high school, Matthew achieved Eagle Scout rank with Troop 26 in Avery’s Creek.  Matthew proudly served our country by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in July of 1997.  He then went on to Blue Ridge Community College where he graduated with a nursing degree as a registered nurse.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gladys Lashus Ferrell, Willie Preston Ferrell, Christine Smith Pickard, and John Edward Pickard Sr.  Matthew is survived by his children, Ella Marie Pickard and Mia Lily Pickard, both of Henderson County, NC; his sister, Rachel Pickard Rathbone, of Menifee, CA and his older brother, John Edward Pickard III (Lindy Brinkley Pickard).  He is also survived by one nephew and three nieces.

A celebration of life will be held on October 22nd, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Long Shoals Baptist Church in Arden, in the fellowship hall.  An internment at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain will be held on October 21st at 10:00 AM.
