Matthew Murdic “Matt” Rabon II, 75, of Landrum, South Carolina, passed away at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital on July 21, 2021. Matt was born in Camden, South Carolina on January 22, 1946, to the late Elizabeth Ann DeBruhl Rabon and Matthew Murdic Rabon I. Matt is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Phil Rabon and Tim Rabon.
Matt attended North Greenville Junior College, completing general studies. Later, he studied sign language and floral design, eventually focusing his career on floral designer. He enjoyed event planning, rescuing animals, and collecting and wearing Hawaiian shirts. In addition to his floral design work, Matt was a funeral attendant at McAlister and Stuhr funeral homes in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a member of Crossroad Baptist Church in Campobello, South Carolina.
Matt is survived by his partner of sixteen years, John Douglas; two sons, Matthew M. Rabon III (Judy Risher), of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Adam J. Rabon (Elsie), of Charleston, South Carolina; sister, Mary Rabon Elligson (Ken), of Snow Hill, Maryland; grandson, Griffin Matthew Rabon, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; former spouse, Patty Johnson Schaffer, of Charleston, South Carolina; and close friend, Joyce Douglas, of Round O, South Carolina.
Memorials may be made in Matt’s honor to the South Carolina Association of the Deaf, The Spartanburg Humane Society, and Small but Mighty Dog Rescue in Campobello, South Carolina.
