Patricia McDaniel Moss, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, public servant, and community leader, passed away peacefully. Born on November 21, 1940, in Norfolk, Virginia, Patricia lived a life defined by service, leadership, and deep commitment to her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald L. Moss in 2019. She is survived by her son, Don Moss, daughter, Mary Beth Mandanas, and her cherished grandchildren, Emma, Ben and Sam Mandanas. She is also survived by her siblings John McDaniel, Bruce McDaniel, and Joan Kenny.
Patricia was a woman of strong faith and a dedicated member of Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church, where she faithfully served in numerous leadership roles, including as a member of the vestry and as Senior Warden. Her commitment to her church community was unwavering and deeply impactful.
Her passion for public service extended into local government, where she served on the Hickory City Council from 1992 to 2000, including her role as Mayor Pro Tem. During her tenure, she was known for her thoughtful leadership, integrity, and dedication to the betterment of the Hickory community.
Patricia was also active in the political arena, successfully managing several election campaigns for Congressman Cass Ballenger, contributing her strategic insight and tireless work ethic to public service beyond her own elected role.
A passionate advocate for education and community enrichment, Patricia played an instrumental role in the formation of the Catawba Science Center and the Salt Block Foundation, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to benefit generations.
In addition to her civic and community accomplishments, Patricia took great pride in managing her family’s horse farm, Henry River Farm, in Mountain View, North Carolina. There, she cultivated not only the land but also a place of connection, tradition, and lasting memories for her family.
Patricia will be remembered for her grace, strength, and unwavering dedication to the people and causes she loved. Her legacy of leadership, service, and family devotion will endure through all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SALT Block Foundation or St Giles Chapel at Deerfield in Asheville.
