Peter Brumby Obituary

Peter John Brumby, sixty-eight, passed March 28, 2022, at home in Leicester, North Carolina. Peter was born January 5, 1954, to the late Laura Margaret Spain Brumby and Leonard Burder Brumby in Cold Spring Harbor, New York.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his brother, James Brumby.

He is survived by Rosemary Brumby (née DeBlasi), to whom he was married thirty-nine years; his children, Heather Laura Brumby (Roberto Birardi) of Merrick, New York, and Adam DeBlasi (Cristina Gomes) of Wallingford, Connecticut; sister, Margaret Howard (John) of Riverforest, Illinois; granddaughters, Kayla and Josphine DeBlasi, both of Ronkonkoma, New York, and Lianna DeBlasi of Wallingford, Connecticut; and by many nieces and nephews.

Peter had a great love and passion for music. He was not only an avid record collector but a musician himself; playing piano, guitar and singing, whether privately or in bands. He loved every genre of music, from classical to rock, especially his beloved Grateful Dead. Peter was often found in our backyard, listening to music on his boom box, with a glass of wine and staring off into nature that surrounded him.

Peter also had a great passion for reading. His favorites were mostly of fantasy descent – anything that involved wizards, hobbits, mythical/mystical creatures and magic. Not surprisingly, that also made up his favorite movies like Lord of the Rings.

One of his favorite pastimes was to take nature walks and hikes. Give Peter a green forest, a dirt trail and a walking staff and he was in his happy place. One such place that was dear to him, his friends and even trickled down to our daughter, was a trail named Stillwell Woods; or as he and his friends jokingly but aptly names “Stoney Heights” due to their younger year hijinks.

Peter was retired from thirty-seven years of work with Samuel A. Ramirez & Co. in the financial district in New York City.

He was one of the kindest men, with the most gentle of souls and the biggest of hearts to enter any of our lives. He loved his family and friends beyond measure and he was loved by all in return. We were the lucky and fortunate ones having had him as part of our lives. His infamous humbleness would disagree and state he was the lucky one for all of us. He will forever be in our hearts and will be truly and sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held June 11, 2022, from ten to one o'clock at A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home (1380 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY 11746). Eulogies will begin at noon. The family will also be having a celebration of Peter’s life following the memorial service at Finley’s of Greene Street (43 Green Street, Huntington, NY 11743) between one-thirty and four-thirty in the afternoon.
