Peter William Schoen, 82, of Black Mountain, North Carolina, passed away on June 10, 2023. He was born on June 2, 1941, in the Bronx, New York.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on his birthday, Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 500 Montreat Road, Black Mountain, North Carolina. Please contact his wife, Myra, if you wish to attend.
Peter was a warm and witty man, with a kind heart and generous spirit, smart and savvy, with an inner light that brightened the room.
Peter had a successful career as a Nursing Home Administrator, Entrepreneur, and Certified Bridge Director and Teacher. He was passionate about Bridge, Art History, and Music. Peter graduated from Hewlett High School, New York; earned a bachelor’s degree at New York University; and a master’s degree at Florida International University, Miami. He taught bridge at OLLI/University of North Carolina Asheville and at the Asheville Bridge Room, where he encouraged learning and won the hearts of his students.
He is survived by his wife, Myra Gross Schoen, daughter Rebecca Zemetra, grandchildren Mitchell and Jordan Zemetra, stepson Peter Gross and his wife Samantha Gross, sisters Patricia Becker, Judith Litt, Simone Miller, nephew Seth Becker, and nieces Deborah Blodinger, Liza Risin, Aimee Zohar, Sarah Litt, and Sylvie Lanza, and their children.
Peter was preceded in death by his father Joseph Schoen and mother Nettie Yolles Schoen.
