Phillip Walker Obituary

Phillip Andrew Walker, age 60, died Saturday February 25, 2024.

He loved his family, uncovering many amusing stories of the family in his genealogy studies and occasionally embellishing those stories as he told them.

He discovered computers at McCallie High School, and they became his lifelong passion. He studied at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. He worked at United Way of America in Alexandria, VA as Chief Information Officer, at Bandwidth Inc. in Raleigh, NC as a Software Development Manager, and most recently at Lenovo in Raleigh, NC as a Senior Engineering Manager.  He was awarded a Governor's Commendation for his work in support of the recovery efforts following the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.

He was preceded in death by father Paris Walker, Jr.; grandparents Paris Walker, Sr. and Mattie Jones Walker of Knoxville, TN and Creed and Vella Dennis Allen of Newport, TN; and by his aunt Amarylis and uncle Johnnie Carson of Newport, TN, uncle Arlen and aunt Ruby Allen of Dandridge, TN, uncle Don and aunt Mary Walker, of Knoxville, TN, and uncle Earl Walker of Knoxville, TN

He is survived by his mother Roma Allen Walker and brother Thomas Allen (Madellenna) Walker of Wilmington, NC; his niece Holly Ann Walker of Boston, MA; his nephew Tony (Liana) Johnson of Woodbridge, VA; his aunt Shirley Walker of Knoxville, TN; and several cousins who made family reunions something you did not want to miss.  He had a host of good friends in the Washington DC and Raleigh/Durham NC areas.

The family will conduct a private service and suggests that those who knew Phillip at one of his stops in life get together with others that knew him, eat some good food, tell some stories about Phillip, celebrate his life, and remember him with love.
