Phyllis D. Smith (Newman), lifelong resident of Flat Rock, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 2, 2024. Born April 1, 1965, to Anita H. Newman and the late Allan Newman, Phyllis was fifty-eight.
Phyllis loved her hanging baskets of flowers, and bird houses. Phyllis was known as “Phee” or “Aunt Phee” to her nieces and nephews, or Mimi by her grandchildren, upon whom she loved with everything she had.
In addition to her father, Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Amber Newman, and sister-in-law, Debbie Newman.
She is survived by her mother; brothers, Greg Newman and Stephen Newman (Kim); grandchildren, AJ Seay and Roger T. Shipman; nephews, Brandon Newman (Kayde), Austin Newman (Lauren), James Newman, Jordan Newman and Brody Lindsey, and nieces, Hannah Rice (Chris), Holly Meissner (Chris) and Macie Newman; great-nephews, Alden Newman, Kahudda Newman and Kameron Newman, and great-nieces, Lyra Newman, Iris Rice and Ivy Rice.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church (3582 Mt. Olivet Road, Zirconia, NC 28790) at two o’clock the afternoon of January 6, 2024, with a visitation prior to the service, beginning at one o’clock.
