Richard Alan Basham

Richard Alan Basham, age 77, of Asheville, NC passed away on July 21, 2025 in Asheville, NC.  Richard was born in Asheville, NC on July 11, 1948 to the late Helen Basham and James Basham.  Richard proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969.  Throughout his life, Richard worked in Metal Fabrication at K + R Fab.

Richard had a lifelong passion for fishing.  He would fish anywhere from a childhood location they called the mud hole to the ocean.  His favorite place to fish was the Cherokee Reservation where he made friends and fishing buddies with the Cherokee Indians.

Richard is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Basham.  He is survived by his sons, Richard A. Basham Jr., of Arden, NC, and Jason Brian Basham, of Fletcher, NC.  He is also survived by his siblings, Larry Basham, of Asheville, NC, Wendi Hash, of Boone, NC, and Gayle Baker, of Franklin, NC, and his grandchildren, Grant Isaac Basham, and Lauren Chelsea Basham, of Arden, NC.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
