Richard Arthur Gilbert

Richard Arthur Gilbert, 93, of Golden Valley, NC, passed away on April 25, 2026, in Forest City, NC. He was born on March 29, 1933, in St. Johnsbury, VT, to the late Lawrence E. Gilbert and Martha Mary Nyman Gilbert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Ann Gilbert, Joan S. Gilbert Bruno, and Janice E. Gilbert Tully.

Before making his home in Golden Valley for the past 17 years, Richard lived in Florida and California. He graduated from Watervliet High School and went on to earn his BS–MS from the University of Miami in Florida. He completed his RN training at NYU–Bellevue Hospital in 1954. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as an AS Administrative CNO in New York City, Miami, California, Nigeria and West Africa (1970–1971), Qatar, and the Arabian Gulf.

Richard is survived by his children, Saara Jenifer Gilbert Masten (Tory Masten) of Asheville, NC, and Seth Jeffry R. Gilbert (Becca Gilbert) of Pittsburg, PA; and his grandchildren, Piper Masten and Porter Masten.

Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, NY at a later date.
