Robert “Bob” Brian Wagar,75. of Asheville passed away on September 10, 2021 at the
John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born August 14, 1946 in Chicago,
IL, he was the son of the late William and Ruth Wagar. He attended the Akademie der
Bildenden Kuenste of Stuttgart, Germany, received a B.A. from Knox College, an M.A.
and an M.F.A. from Northern Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Army. 1969-71, and
was self-employed as a clay artist. Bob was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church,
the Kentucky Craft Guild, and Life Member of the Southern Highlands Craft
Guild. His work is found in many NC collections, the Museum of Natural History of
NC, the NC Center for Crafts, Northern Illinois University, and the Southern Highlands
Craft Guild. He taught at Ohio State University, University of North Carolina at Asheville,
and the Campbell Folk School. Surviving is his spouse of 53 years, Angelika Klieber
Wagar, son, Christopher Wagar, grandchildren, Luke, Clint and Teagan Wagar, all of
Asheville, NC.
Services will be held outside at noon on Wednesday, October 6, 2021,
at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
