Robert Manning Zieber

Robert Manning Zieber, 73, of Asheville, NC died peacefully at Solace Hospice on November 28, 2022.  Robert was born May 16, 1949, in the Panama Canal Zone to George Manning Zieber Jr. and Miriam Grizzell Zieber.  He was the oldest of 4 children.  The family moved to King of Prussia, PA in 1957.  He was a 1967 graduate of Upper Merion High School.  After a short time in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he received a graduate degree in Quantum Physics from Drexel University.

Robert was devoted to family, friends, and the environment.  He loved Asheville.  He lived in Western North Carolina for more than 20 years.  He was an avid English, contra and morris dancer, active in the Sierra Club, and a rescuer of all things that had more life in them, especially old tools.  He was active in food distribution to the community and president of the Apple Club.  He loved selling and collecting at Smiley’s, the local flea market.

Robert is survived by 3 sisters, Nancy Anne Zieber, Miriam (Lynn) Schmidt and Susan (Michael) Ross, 3 children, Robin Zieber, Christopher Zieber, and Ilsa Kelischek, 6 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews, and 5 cousins.

Robert’s friends and family will gather at Harvest House (205 Kenilworth Rd, Asheville, NC 28803) on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 from 11 AM to 1 PM to celebrate his life.  All are welcome.
