Sandra Dotson Obituary

Sandra Greene Dotson, 76 of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 25, 1948 in Boone, NC, to the late Frank and Cora Greene, Sandra lived a life marked by resilience, deep faith, and boundless love. She overcame many adversities with grace and strength, inspiring all who knew her.

She shared a devoted marriage of 58 years with her beloved husband, Jerry Dotson, a partnership filled with mutual respect, humor, and steadfast commitment. Together, they raised four children of their own and opened their hearts and home to countless others. Many young people—affectionately known as the “Oakley Outlaws”—as well as countless youth from church and community called her “Beach Mama,” cherishing her care, leadership, and joyful spirit during trips and gatherings. While she was known by many nicknames over the years, her most cherished was “Gigi,” given to her by her beloved grandson and carried on by her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A woman of faith and service, Sandra was a charter member of Ecclesia Baptist Church. Sandra sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, led Girls in Action, served as Vacation Bible School Director, and brought her gift of radical hospitality to all she met. She also sang in a gospel quartet, traveling to share stories of new life in walking with God. Beyond the church, she served as a grade mother, PTA president, and substitute teacher at Oakley Elementary School, always investing in the lives of children and families. She woke her “beach kids” each morning with pots, pans, and a joyful song, and she fed both body and soul with her cooking and her love.

Her greatest joy came from her family. She was a constant source of support and encouragement, embodying the faith she professed and passing on the legacy of God’s love to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Sandra is survived by four children: Kelly Dotson, Kim Dotson, Kregg Dotson(Melanie), and Kris Dotson(Trina); Grandchildren: Tommy Bradley(Lauren), Felicia Johnson, David Dotson, Kayla Ferren(Chase), Sara Weaver(Michael), Katie Bradley, and Mya Allen. Great Grandchildren: Mason Francis, Isabella Taylor, Bryce Briggs, Nova Francis and Scarlett Johnson. Siblings: Linda Marshall(Kip) and David Greene. Brothers in Love, David Dotson(Greta), Stan Dotson(Kim) and James Johnson. She was also survived by a Special Daughter in love, Leigh Anne Robinson, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her Parents in Law Jesse and Edith Dotson, Two sisters Nancy Price(Jack) and Susan Johnson and her grandson Jax Dotson.

A celebration of her life will be held on August 30 at noon at Oakley United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Aileen Lawrimore, Rev. Steven Norris and Rev. Stan Dotson presiding. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. A meal will follow in the Church fellowship Hall catered by beloved friends of the family: Forrest and Germaine Weaver.

The Family wishes to express deep appreciation to the gentle care provided to Gigi by Stone Creek Health and Rehabilitation, Four Seasons Palliative Care, Four Seasons Hospice, MAHEC, Advent Home Health and her favorite Occupational Therapist Sandra Winner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ecclesia Food Ministries, and or Ecclesia Sister Church Partnership.

Her life was a living testimony to the words of the hymn she loved so dearly: “All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.” She gave generously, loved deeply, and will be remembered always. “We Love you More.”
