Sandra Elaine "Sandy-Kate" (Penland) Hudgins

    Sandra Elaine "Sandy-Kate" Penland Hudgins, 83, passed Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at her home in Asheville, North Carolina.
    Sandra was born March 6, 1938, to the late Eula Agustus Brooks Penland and Alfred James Penland of Asheville. She graduated from Asheville High School. Sandra was a gardener, a cook and a canner. She loved going to the Farmer's Market. Sandra enjoyed poetry and storytelling, and was a songwriter. Sandra worked with Mills Manufacturing and with Schneider Electric Company. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. 
    In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her spouse, James William "Moses" Hudgins. 
    She is survived by her sons, Jeff Hudgins (Barbara) of Candler, Bryan Hudgins (Christy) of Asheville, Rodney Hudgins (Tammy) of Leicester, and Barry "Bo" Hudgins (Cathy, deceased) of Asheville, North Carolina; her sister, Brenda Davis (Bill), of Swannanoa, North Carolina, and half-brother, Thomas "Tommy" Burrell (Sheila) of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Kristen and Brandon (Jessie) Hudgins of Leicester, Tanner, Naomi, and J.C. Hudgins of Asheville, and Amber Prestwood-Montana of Swannanoa, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Jada, Lexie, Colt and Axle Hudgins of Leicester, Tayler and Carson Boles of Weaverville, and Journey Hudgins of Asheville, North Carolina. 
    A graveside service will be held to honor Sandra at Forest Lawn Cemetery (Candler) the afternoon of Friday, June 11, 2021, at one o'clock where family will receive extended family and friends. Special thanks to Craig Roberts for officiating the service. Many thanks, too, to the many individuals that helped to support and care for Sandra: Four Seasons Hospice, and her palliative care team, Kim, Margaret, Mike, Allison, Jackie, Charlotte, Daniel,  Kelly and Eddie (GlobalMED).
