Shelby Jean (Jones) Lunsford

Shelby Jean Jones Lunsford of Asheville, North Carolina, passed January 1, 2024. Born January 16, 1944, to the late William Lonnie Jones, Sr., and Arie E. Burr Jones in Asheville, Shelby was seventy-nine.

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Star Lasha Cassida; son, Richard James Lunsford III; and a sister, Ila Faye J. Correll.

            Shelby is survived by her husband, Richard James Lunsford, Jr.; children, Patti Lynn Lunsford Cassida (Mike) and Kevin D. Lunsford, both of Asheville; siblings, Mary J. Wright, Violet Jones and Myrtis J. Robinson, all of Asheville; grandchildren, Amista Lemke (Mark) of Weaverville, North Carolina, and Stephen Stroupe (Holly), Vincent Stroupe (Alana) and Conner Logan Lunsford, all of Asheville; seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

            A memorial service will be held at two o’clock the afternoon of January 16, 2024 at Cedar Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Reverend Kenneth Mashburn will officiate. Interment will be at West Memorial Park at a later date.
