Stephen Cator Obituary

Stephen Patrick Cator, 67, a man of remarkable talent and quiet intensity, passed away on March 19 in Asheville, North Carolina.

Born on December 20, Stephen was a master of anything he loved. As a software engineer, he possessed an almost wizard-like ability to shape and navigate complex databases. Whatever the challenge, he approached it with clarity, precision, and deep focus.

Music was one of his greatest joys. An extraordinary musician, he played bass with the local garage band Ant Farm, and at home he moved effortlessly between guitar, keyboards, ukulele, and drums. Music was not simply something he played, it was something he lived.

Stephen shared a life of adventure with his beloved wife, Leia. Together they traveled more than 50,000 miles across the Southeast and beyond on their Harley Road Glide, chasing open roads, wide skies, and the quiet freedom found in motion.

He was a chess champion, a lover of flight and automobiles, and a man whose curiosity and skill seemed to know no bounds. Whatever captured his interest, he pursued it fully, with a natural mastery that left others in awe.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Leia; his sons, Benjamin and Nathaniel; his stepchildren, Richard and Kayla; and his two cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Dee and Walt Baker; his stepmother, Donna Marie Cator; and his stepbrother, Joseph Wolfe.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Cator, and his stepbrother, James Wolfe.

Those who knew Stephen will remember not only what he did, but how he did it—with brilliance, intensity, and a steady presence that endures in memory.

May the roads he loved stretch on without end, and may his music rise softly in the hearts of those who carry him forward.
