Stephen Longenecker

Stephen Longenecker, 86, passed away on April 15, 2026, in Asheville, NC. He was born on August 11, 1939, in Joplin, MO, to the late Galen and Louise Longenecker.

Stephen earned his B.S. from Florida State University and went on to dedicate his life to education. He taught in the classroom, led countless nature programs for schools and Scouts, and served as an instructor at four different camps—roles that perfectly blended his love of learning, the outdoors, and inspiring young people. An avid rock climber and cyclist, Stephen found joy in every opportunity to be outside and to share that joy with others.

He is survived by his brother, Bill Longenecker, of Neptune Beach, FL.
