September 19, 1964 ~ October 3, 2023 (age 59) 59 Years Old
Sven Sundberg of Asheville, North Carolina, passed October 3, 2023. Born September 19, 1964 in Jackson Heights, New York, Sven was fifty-nine.
Sven lived in many states over his lifetime including New York, Connecticut, Kansas, Arizona, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Washington and, most recently, North Carolina. Sven attended high school in Illinois and Missouri, graduating in Missouri, and held degrees in Accounting and Computer Science from Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois. Sven described himself as a “busy non-profit executive” and took joy in his work.
Sven was an accomplished contemporary instrumental musician with licensing successes and several awards. He composed eleven albums with over 100 songs that can be found online. A source of pride for Sven was the opportunity to receive lessons as a child from John Steinway (of Steinway Pianos). His hope was to write memorable melodies that were timeless and inspiring to his listeners. His wish was, “my music will be thought of as worth listening to long after I’m gone.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sven Roland Sundberg and Dorothy Marie Sundberg, and siblings, Carl Schlemer and Lester Schlemer.
Sven is survived by his twin sister, Monica Qualls (Brent) of Colorado, Linda Sue Johnson of Illinois, Charles “Rusty” Schlemer of Arkansas, Debra Zandstra Baker (Marty) of Tennessee, Tammy Wheelan of Tennessee, and sixteen nieces and nephews. Special mention to his surviving dear friends, Michael DeBeaulieu and Robert Holman of Springfield, Illinois, and Moshe Reshef and Heather Seager of North Carolina.
Sven’s ashes will be spread in Lick Creek Wildlife Refuge in Springfield, Illinois, with family and friends.
