Toinette Layfield

We are heartbroken to announce the death of Toinette Layfield, age 41, formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Sylva, North Carolina. 

She tragically passed on October 10, 2023 at her home in Bryson City, N.C. after a long battle with health complications.

She will be dearly missed by her only son, Zade Weir, her 2 sisters Victoria Layfield and Sonia Graydon, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and her long time companion Carl Bryant.   

Toi, as we lovingly called her, could always make anyone laugh and enjoyed doing things to help others. She was amazingly intellectual and could carry on a conversation about anything from World Politics to Ancient Egypt to the Great Mysteries of the Universe. She was also quite the wordsmith, just like our Mom, and was pretty hard to beat in a game of Scrabble. She was fascinated by dinosaurs from an early age, and could name every dinosaur AND spell their names correctly by age 5.  She loved a menagerie of animals, including frogs and bunnies, and took solace in the nature around her.  Toi always found great joy in her 2 cats, Minerva and her kitten Uno, as well as with her tiny dog Poquito.  Toi was also a very talented artist  and painter, and when it came to making crafts, anything she made could have been sold in a boutique. If you knew her at all, you knew how much she loved Christmas, the color Purple, and anything Hello Kitty! She was a loyal sister, mother, friend, and daughter. She missed our Mama every second of the last 16 years since she passed, so I know that her heart will be happy when she is laid to rest with our mother.  I hope she was able to run straight into our Mama's arms when she got to heaven. 

A small memorial will take place on:  Friday,  October 20 , 2023  All are welcome and appreciated.

An additional graveside funeral will take place at a future date in the Rest Haven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
