Walter Leroy Goggans

            Walter Leroy Goggans of Asheville, North Carolina, passed December 24, 2020, at the age of sixty-seven.

            Walter was born to Eloise Penland and Murphy Goggans, Sr., on October 17, 1953. He grew up in Asheville, and graduated from Asheville High School. Walter retired from the VA Medical Center after more than thirty-five years of service.

            In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Murphy Goggans, Jr., and Curtis Goggans, Sr.

            He is survived by Jennifer Yvette Pope Goggans, his wife of twenty-four years; children DeJuane Goggans (April) of Asheville, North Carolina, and Charmayne Hall (Jawanza) of San Antonio, Texas; siblings Tommy Goggans (Sylvia) of Barnardsville, North Carolina, and Gwen Lunsford (Neal) of Greenville, South Carolina; granddaughter Kinsley Hall of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

            Due to the current COVID pandemic, the family is forgoing any services at this time. A celebration of Walter’s life by family and friends will happen at a later date. In the meantime, the family extends an invitation to make a donation to a favorite charity in honor of Walter.
