Walter John "Bud" Sellers, Ret. MSGT, peacefully passed Monday, June 7, 2021, at home in Asheville, North Carolina. He was ninety-five.
Walter was born April 24, 1926. After high school, he began his military career with the 1st Armored Division of the Army in the North Apennines and Po Valley regions of Italy in World War II. After 13 years in the Army, Walter joined the Air Force in Security Service with overseas assignments in Germany and Italy. He retired as a Russian linguist after 16 years. He was also fluent in German, Italian and Serbo-Croatian. Following his military retirement, Walter began a second 21-year career as a school bus driver for special education elementary school children in San Antonio. TX. He loved them, and their parents loved him. Walter volunteered at Brooke Army Medical Center (Texas) and tutored school children in English as a second language. He served as an usher at his church, and enjoyed traveling.
In 2008, he and his wife moved to North Carolina to be closer to family. He had a genuine interest in meeting people and learning about them. He was well loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Surviving Walter are Margaret Chiacchio Sellers, to whom he was married sixty-eight years. and his daughters, Mary Doyle (David) of Simpsonville, Kentucky, and Claire Tiernan (John, deceased) of Candler, North Carolina.
