William Chatoney Obituary

William “Bill” Chatoney (70), a resident of Candler, NC passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2022, surrounded by his family. 

Bill was born on June 9, 1951, in Greenville, MS to Dora Lee and William Chatoney. He was raised in Jacksonville FL. by his mother and stepfather E.L. “Sandy” Sanders.

Bill was born a drummer and pursued his passion all his life. He played with numerous bands including B.B. King, Santana, Grinderswitch, Bo Didley and the Alleman Brothers. Bill worked for MB Haynes Corporation for 35 years.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, mother, Dora Lee Sanders, father, William Chatoney, stepfather Sandy Sanders, nephew, Ross Lee Ammann and many beloved dogs.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Susan Soesbee Chatoney, daughter Elizabeth Ann, stepchildren, Jennifer and Brian, sisters, Ginger Crenshaw (Mike), Tina Simoneaux (Jerry), grandchildren, Madison “Maddy Clare”, Baylor, Macky, Hudson, step grandchildren, Madison “Madi”, Breanna, Talon, several nieces and nephews, many friends and bandmates and his partner in crime, “that damn dog Taz”. 

To honor Bill’s wishes, services will be private. His family invites you to celebrate Bill’s life in your own way. In leu of flowers, please make donations in Bill’s name to your favorite charity.
