William David “Bill” Boyd was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1929. He was a first generation American; his father William and mother Dora had emigrated from Scotland and England respectively. He was raised and lived in Detroit along with his sister Barbara and she introduced him to the love of his life – Maureen Walsh of Wales, UK. At age 22 he was drafted by the US Army and he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado for two years. Bill and Maureen were wed in 1951 and had four wonderful children. Bill studied engineering at Wayne State University and that led to a long, loyal career with Ford Motor Company, a career that had him working in the US, England, Northern Ireland, Finland and Germany. His colleagues always found him to be a dedicated problem solver, team player and willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. However, his favorite times were the annual family vacations in northern Michigan. Bill and Maureen eventually retired in South Carolina and most recently Asheville, North Carolina. During his retirement, his passion for woodworking flourished and all family members were regularly showered with beautiful, one-of-a kind gifts, the result of many hours of hard work. After an active retirement, Bill suddenly passed away on April 29, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Barbara Sutton. He is survived by his wife Maureen, four children: Alan and wife Sandy, Carolyn and husband John, Sue and husband Jim, and Rob and wife Cara. He is also survived by his sister-in-law June Kimmel, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. He will be missed by all and loved by many.
