William ''Bill'' James Woods

William James “Bill” Woods, 89, of Fletcher, NC passed away on November 16, 2024 at Long Leaf Memorial Center in Wilson, NC.

Bill was born on January 15, 1935 in Clearfield County, PA to the late Russell Colus Woods (1982) and Pearl Ada Kuhn Woods (2007). Preceding Bill in death are his sister, Janet Woods; his brothers, Clyde, Clifford, Millard, Dean, and Rusell Woods.

Before moving to Fletcher, NC, Bill resided in Clearfield, PA and Niagara Falls, NY. He attended La Salle High School in Niagara Falls, NY. Bill served in the United States Army and was a part of the United States Army Reserves. He was later employed at Day International and HCMA Trucking before retiring and was affiliated with Sweeten Creek FWB Church. Bill loved fishing, golf, and gardening.

Surviving Bill are his wife, Nancy Kathryn Jenkins Woods of almost 40 years; his sons, William Leo Woods of Fletcher, NC and Steven Russell Woods of Key West Florida; daughters, Lynne Elaine Smith of Kansas and Michelle Renee Cox of Flat Rock, NC; sisters Rose Lee Morgan of Niagara Falls, NY and Sue Ann Atwood of Clearfield, PA; brothers, Ralph (Dianne) Woods of Prattville, AL and Clifford Woods of Clearfield, PA; step-son, James Dana O’Kelley of Fairview, NC; step-daughter, Patricia K. O’Kelley of Asheville, NC; God daughters Brandi O’Kelley Lytle and Jessica O’Kelley of Fairview, NC and Kaitlin Roth Baker of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Josh, Russel, Jamie Woods, and Christopher Cox; and seven great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on November 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with a celebration of his life to follow.
