William “Rusty” Russell Crutchfield of Fletcher, age 64, died on January 8. Rusty was born January 28, 1959 in Orlando, FL. Rusty was preceded in death by his father, William Crutchfield. He is survived by his mother, Loveta Smith Lewis, and sister, Rebecca (Roger) O’Kelley of Asheville; a son, Brian (Jessie) Crutchfield of Kingsport, TN; a daughter, Annika Marie Crutchfield of Asheville; three grandchildren, Garrett, Harper, and Emery Crutchfield; nephews, Jim Cole, John Davenport, and Will Davenport; and great-nephew, Isaiah Davenport.

He attended grade school at Emmanuel Lutheran and Gibbons Hall Catholic School. He loved sports from a young age. He graduated from Christ School in 1977 and was inducted into the Christ School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. Rusty graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and was a true Tar Heel. He was honored as a nominee for the Morehead Scholarship and received tuition for four years. He was a CPA and controller at Gaia Herbs, Inc. in Brevard.
